Cannabis Giants Unite On A New Roundtable

Happy Friday for January 17, 2025. On our latest Trade to Black podcast, David Culver, Senior Vice President of the United States Cannabis Roundtable, and David Mangone, NCR Policy Director, join us to talk about cannabis rescheduling, SAFE Banking developments under the Trump administration, and their plan of action toward the Trump administration with immediate plans being reported.  Big Mike, the Founder of Advanced Nutrients also joins to share industry perspectives on advocacy and administration changes

In the industry headlines, news broke on Thursday morning about the formation of the US Cannabis Roundtable. America’s largest legal cannabis companies decided to pool their resources to break the bureaucratic stalemate on federal marijuana reform.

This new advocacy group merges the powerhouses of the US Cannabis Council and the National Cannabis Roundtable, representing a sector that employs nearly half a million people and operates 13,000 dispensaries across 38 states. Charlie Bachtell, CEO of marijuana stock Cresco Labs (OTC: CRLBF), is at the helm, backed by industry heavyweights like Curaleaf (OTC: CURLF), Trulieve (OTC: TCNNF) and Green Thumb (OTC: GTBIF).

With Trump returning to the White House and Elon Musk, Joe Rogan, and RFK Jr. all whispering pro-cannabis sentiments in his ear, the industry is banking on a green wave. David Culver and David Mangone emphasized that the administration appears more receptive to cannabis reform compared to Biden’s. The Democrats initiated the conversation, but many feel like they failed to deliver meaningful progress.

Trump’s previous comments about medical cannabis and states’ rights indicate an openness to incremental reform, with veterans’ access and public safety emerging as key bipartisan priorities. Early indications as to whether they will be more cannabis forward might be seen in the new DEA pick.

Plus, “Big” Mike Straumeitis from Advanced Nutrients will join us once again to provide an update on what the latest he’s heard from his network concerning cannabis reform. Last month, he interviewed a member of Trump’s presidential campaign team, Bryan Lanza, where after the interview he felt confident that rescheduling would be announced in the first 60-90 days under the Trump administration. We’ll find out if he still feels that way.
