Congresswoman Nancy Mace On Hemp, Cannabis
TDR Hosts Shadd Dales and Anthony Varrell welcome Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) back to the Trade To Black podcast. Hemp and last week’s Democratic National Convention will be hot topics of conversation, and how it has been impacting the cannabis industry. Later in the episode, Dan Ahrens updates us on the market trends with MSOS Monday.
We saw there was a lot of energy at the DNC, but the topic of cannabis did not make it to the main stage. Nancy Mace assumes and hopes that rescheduling cannabis will happen right before the election to help with cannabis votes, but she has been disappointed in the lack of legislative effort by the Democrats on that score. While she supports de-scheduling, she’d still consider rescheduling as a win when it finally happens.
Nancy Mace explains why she and a number of Congressional members have publicly entered the fray and taken an active stance related to the Farm Bill and its hemp provisions. Hemp, she says, is not just important to the economy of South Carolina, it should be perfectly legal everywhere. We also dive into questions about how we get the STATES Act back into play. Back in 2018, the bill was designed to prevent Federal interference with states that had legalized marijuana.
“I think that in the GOP realm, people are afraid of [cannabis and hemp],” she says. She believes this is why they haven’t polled for support of it, because they would see how much support there is for changing political stances on both products, either recreational or medicinal. When it comes to the presidential election, however, Nancy Mace says whoever is going to win “will peak in October.” There’s a lot of time for change to happen.
Nancy Mace seems to believe rescheduling is just a matter of time, and perhaps that’s a good thing. Washington politicians don’t seem to want to put their fingerprints on cannabis and hemp bills when an agency like the DEA might take the issue completely out of their hands.
