Hirsh Jain Comments On The Cannabis State Of The Union

Host Anthony Varrell is at the helm for this special cannabis State of the Union episode of Trade To Black, joined by guest Hirsh Jain from Ananda Strategy. We’ll be spending the whole episode talking about politics and the impact it has had lately on the cannabis markets. If you haven’t kept abreast of the current political movements on legalization, this podcast will be the one to watch.

Florida will not be the only US state attempting to bring cannabis as a ballot initiative this fall, as both North and South Dakota join Florida in voting on recreational cannabis.

In Florida, headlines continue to focus on the popular progress of Florida’s Amendment 3, which would legalize cannabis for adults aged 21 and older allow for sales of recreational pot if it passes the vote in November. The latest polling data suggests strong support for the measure, and voter turnout is expected to be high due to abortion rights initiatives also joining the same ballot.

Arkansas and Nebraska have ballots for medical marijuana measures that are currently facing legal challenges complicated by political dynamics from prohibitionists like Pete Ricketts. Hirsch and Anthony will explain the difficulty with these ballot initiatives and discuss the chances of passing in their respective states, and the political dynamics involved.

Red states appear to be growing somewhat more liberal – at least as far as cannabis is concerned. Republicans are leaning increasingly in favour of legalization, and that may be an important tipping point for the progress of federal cannabis legalization measures.

Ohio has been enjoying the economic impact of recreational cannabis sales, but how is the state of Michigan faring? Ohio sold almost $55 million in first month of adult rec use sales, and Michigan, which had adult recreational use much sooner than Ohio, previously had many Ohio residents crossing the state line to buy.  A recent report from Michigan’s Cannabis Regulatory Agency shows figures that might surprise you.

We also touch on the regulatory challenges faced by hemp products, the DEA’s two-part test for rescheduling cannabis, and the impact of Donald Trump’s endorsements of marijuana and Amendment 3 in this Monday, September 23, 2024 episode of Trade To Black with Hirsh Jain
