TDR’s Recap Of Capitol Hill Visit, SAFER Banking, Benzinga

TDR’s Anthony Varrell says of his recap on impressions of the politicians met in Washington during the trip to Capitol Hill, “They all had an opinion on SAFE Banking, and they were all either for or against SAFE Banking.” Few appeared, however, to know the difference is between the Secure and Fair Enforcement Regulation (SAFER) Banking Act and the US Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) recommendation to reschedule cannabis.

In Sunday’s episode of the TDR’s Trade To Black podcast, Shadd Dales and Anthony Varrell are back from being on location in Washington, DC and ready jump into several critical topics. Kicking off the podcast, we have a conversation with Benzinga’s Senior Vice President, Elliot Lane, as we gear up for the upcoming Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference happening this week in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

The Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference brings together the leaders of the cannabis industry—MSO executives, industry players, and other entrepreneurs. The investor sentiment there has grown significantly since last year, when the earlier version of the SAFER Banking Act made its way through the Senate Banking Committee. The biggest names and policy makers in the industry will be there, and Elliot Lane says there will be many new faces on the scene for 2024. “I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the new investors that you see there … There are definitely institutions that I’ve never met before that are joining us,” he says.

Get a recap and our thoughts of all the action from Capitol Hill. We discuss an insider’s take on the SAFER Banking Act, the implications for lawmakers if rescheduling cannabis happens, and the Schedule 3 Bifurcation Theory.

You won’t want to miss our Monday podcast as we will have many of the Q&A from senators and members of congress. You will want to keep checking back for podcasts this week; Benzinga is the premiere cannabis conference, and Trade To Black will be on the scene.
