Guaranteed Money #49: This Wagering Market Has Grown Quickly, But Why?

What are the differences between the North American and European sports wagering markets? You’ll find out this and more in this Guaranteed Money feature interview. Host Ryan Doyle sits down with Andy Wright, CEO of The Sporting Group, to look at the very hot sports wagering landscape from all angles.

If you’ve never heard of The Sporting Group, Andy is going to tell you a little bit about the company and how they’ve been playing in the dynamics of the global market for years. Their parent company FDJ might be familiar to Ontarians, having launched as Proline Plus. Andy says FDJ is a huge operator and lottery operator, and they’re comfortable with the challenges a lot of lottery operators are seeing as the market regulates.

The European operators coming over to the US treat it like a cookie cutter approach, Andy says, and that’s a big mistake. The US and Canadian markets are sophisticated – and incredibly so, he says. Why are they so sophisticated compared to across the pond? Listen to the full podcast to find out and of course, you’re always welcome to weigh in with your thoughts in the comments of this episode.

Together, Andy and Ryan talk about the role risk plays when it comes to wagering companies, some of the other differences between the North American and European marketplaces and one of our big questions: what will betting look like in the Metaverse? That and more in this Guranteed Money feature interview!
