Shifting Stances? Senator Booker’s Rumored Call For SAFE

In our episode of the Trade To Black podcast for September 20, 2024, hosts Shadd Dales and Anthony Varrell are back from Washington and sharing their takeaway from what they learned on Capitol Hill. We share the latest from AYR Wellness, and Dr. Alyza “Beast” Brevard-Rodriguez joins us to talk about the current challenges she faces concerning her New Jersey cannabis dispensary. Dr. Alyza Brevard-Rodriguez also shares some of the feedback from Senator Cory Booker on the status of SAFE Banking.

In the cannabis headlines, multistate operator AYR Wellness announced this week that their president and CEO, David Goubert, actually resigned. Goubert has been CEO since February, 2023, and under his leadership Ayr’s footprint remained strong and expenses were reduced. However, their Q2 earnings report in August still indicated that earnings were dropping slightly, approximately 0.6% down from Q1.  Steven Cohen is currently serving as interim CEO while they search for a permanent replacement for Goubert.

There’s opinions among some of the major figures in DC that it will be a surprise if Florida’s proposed Amendment 3 passes. Is failure likely, or is it that contrary to popular beliefs? We’ll share some thoughts on that, and other sound bytes we obtained during the visit to the capitol.

When it comes to SAFE Banking, fingers are pointing across the floor between Senate and the House. The Senators blame Congress, and the members of the House blame many Senators. The consistent message on both sides, however, appears to be that the Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer continues to be the root of the problem as to why SAFE Banking continues to stall.

Dr. Alyza “Beast” Brevard-Rodriguez is not just a veteran, she’s a businesswoman trying to launch a dispensary in New Jersey. She’ll explain why it’s so important that SAFE Banking passes, and what she has heard from Senator Booker. Dan from The Chart Guys also checks in for a recap on cannabis stocks for the week, and what to expect heading into next week. Be sure to tune in.
